John Rice

President, Ski California

John brings over 45 years of leadership experience in the ski industry, having held key roles at various ski resorts in California and serving as Corporate HR Director for 13 resorts nationwide. Most recently, he was Vice President and General Manager of Sierra at Tahoe for 32 years and ran a successful consulting business. He is renowned for pioneering the world’s first Terrain Park, and is known as a leading expert in this area. He is currently President of Ski California, which represents 36 downhill and cross-country ski resorts in California and Nevada. John advocates for important issues in governmental relations, public policy, education, and tourism. Active in his community, John serves on several boards in California, El Dorado County, and South Lake Tahoe, including Chair of the Lake Valley Fire Protection District. He played a crucial role in the recovery of Sierra at Tahoe after the Caldor Fire in 2021, sharing his experience in managing wildfire challenges with the broader industry.
